If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Porneia- Fornication, immoral person. Greek uses of porneia- adultery, incest, rape, sodomy, prostitution, bestiality, (all forms of sexual promiscuity). I Corinthians 6:9-10 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. The Pain of Porneia-Sexual atheism, porn addiction, swinger relationships, adultery, sexual identity confusion, homosexuality, fornication, sexual abuse, abortion, STD’s, soul ties, death, spiritual separation from God and kids raising kids, are woven into the fabric of our culture. Statistics: Pornography ● By age 18, 90% of boys and 60% of girls are exposed to Internet pornography. ● 57% of girls and 83% of boys have seen group sex on the Internet. ● 9% of girls and 15% of boys have seen child pornography. ● 18% of girls and 32% of boys have viewed bestiality on the Internet. ● 68-75% of men view porn at least once a week. 18-30% of women. ● Internet Porn in America is a 3 Billion Dollar a year industry. Marriage ● The American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers reports that 56% of divorce cases involve one party having “an obsessive interest in pornographic websites.” ● 38-50% of heterosexual first marriages in America end in divorce. ● No fault Divorce. ($499)(let’s be honest people, same sex marriage is not causing the demise of traditional marriage. It is on the road to redefining what marriage is but heterosexual marriage in America and dare I say in the church is not flourishing) Sexual Abuse ● 1-4 women in America have been sexually abused ● 1-5 men in America have been sexually abused. ● As few as 38 % of childhood victims disclose, they have been abused and many to a friend instead of an adult. (FB Bentonville) Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) ● Sexually Transmitted Disease (STDs) are a significant health challenge facing the United States. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that nearly 20 million new sexually transmitted infections occur every year in this country, half among young people ages 15–24, accounting for almost $16 billion in health care costs. Each of these infections is a potential threat to an individual’s immediate and long-term health and well-being. In addition to increasing a person’s risk for acquiring and transmitting HIV infection, STDs can lead to severe reproductive health complications, such as infertility and ectopic pregnancy. God’s Design and Hope Jude 7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Leviticus 20:10-21 ‘The man who commits adultery with another man’s wife, he who commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress, shall surely be put to death. 11 The man who lies with his father’s wife has uncovered his father’s nakedness; both of them shall surely be put to death. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? 20 For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s. 1 Corinthians 6:13b Now the body is not for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. 1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from sexual immorality; 4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5 not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles who do not know God; 6 that no one should take advantage of and defraud his brother in this matter, because the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also forewarned you and testified. 7 For God did not call us to uncleanness, but in holiness. 8 Therefore he who rejects this does not reject man, but God, who has also given us His Holy Spirit. Matthew 5:27-28 27 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. II Corinthians 10:3-6 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Take Away: What do we do? ● We could deny it is even happening. ● We could round up all those guilty of Porneia and publicly humiliate them and remove them. If we do this, then will we be made pure? ● We could sink into despair and understand the full scope of this and get overwhelmed. We could conclude that we are beyond healing and help. ● We could cry out to God and acknowledge that this issue is huge and that we need a move from Him to bring His life into this topic. We could corporately acknowledge this as our sin and in unity gather in prayer, fasting, repentance, call the elders, mourn. We could ask God to give us back what has been taken and what we have given away. The Lord will hear His people. Instead of the perpetrators and victims in the front row, we want the leaders of the body in the front row leading the way. I Corinthians 6:9-11 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.
