Session 3 | Habits of an Abiding Family

 • Series: Timothy

Mothers Day 2022 Habits of an Abiding Family (Play Talking to Jesus Video- 6 mins) 2 Timothy 1:5 5 I recall your sincere faith that first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and now, I am convinced, is in you also. “Often our parenting is more about us than our kids. We want them to obey God so that we look good. And if they’re not, it’s more about us thinking we failed or we didn’t do our job rather than , “what’s really going on in their hearts?”. We have to step back and say ‘my goal isn’t to have a 16 year old that never sins’. I’m not encouraging our kids to sin, but to help us understand that God can use the bad decision they made. God may use that very thing to make them become the man or woman of God they wouldn’t be otherwise.” – Dave Wilson Habit #1- Prayer 1 Thessalonians 5:17 17pray constantly Pray the Word-Proverbs 4:20-22 20 My son, pay attention to my words; listen closely to my sayings. 21 Don’t lose sight of them; keep them within your heart. 22 For they are life to those who find them, and health to one’s whole body. Habit #2- Serve Acts 20:35 35 In every way I’ve shown you that it is necessary to help the weak by laboring like this and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, because he said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Philippians 2:4 4 Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others. Galatians 5:13 13 For you were called to be free, brothers and sisters; only don’t use this freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but serve one another through love. Romans 12:1 1 Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. Mark 10:45 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” 1 Peter 4:10 10 Just as each one has received a gift, use it to serve others, as good stewards of the varied grace of God. Romans 1:15-17 15 So I am eager to preach the gospel to you also who are in Rome. 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith. Romans 10:15 15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news. Romans 15:1 1 Now we who are strong have an obligation to bear the weaknesses of those without strength, and not to please ourselves. Matthew 5:16 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. Habit #3- Community-Live accountable and transparently, to one another and to the body. Titus 2:3-5 3 In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not slaves to excessive drinking. They are to teach what is good 4 so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children 5 to be self-controlled, pure, workers at home, kind, and in submission to their husbands, so that God’s word will not be slandered. Habit #4 Enjoy every season- Work hard, play hard, abide in Christ. Ecclesiastes 3:1-7 1 There is an occasion for everything, and a time for every activity under heaven 2 a time to give birth and a time to die; a time to plant and a time to uproot 3 a time to kill and a time to heal; a time to tear down and a time to build 4 a time to weep and a time to laugh; a time to mourn and a time to dance 5 a time to throw stones and a time to gather stones; a time to embrace and a time to avoid embracing 6 a time to search and a time to count as lost; a time to keep and a time to throw away 7 a time to tear and a time to sew; a time to be silent and a time to speak “An absolutely essential ingredient for cultivating kids who love Jesus is choosing to become parents who provide a climate in which Christ Like characteristics can grow. This climate moves beyond a focus on rituals and rules to the sometimes time-consuming and energy-draining activities of building relationships” – Gary Oliver Habit #5 Cast a vision- And live accordingly.
